Open Eye Hypnosis

I’m going to say a few things that might shock you. Many people imagine that to be hypnotised you must be sitting down or laying down and that your eyes closed. In fact this is not the case at all, a person can be hypnotised standing up with their eyes open. Yes, you can be hypnotised with your eyes open and you do not have to be relaxed to be hypnotised. There are many common misunderstandings with hypnosis just as people think that you need a pocket watch to be swung in front of someone for them to go into hypnosis. Sure a pocket watch will work if used the correct way but it is definitely not required. The key thing to understand here is that hypnosis is about focus not relaxation and a person can be fully focused standing up with eyes open. Open eye hypnosis has recently been popularised by the rise of a style of hypnosis called conversational hypnosis whereby a person is led into the state of hypnosis without knowing that they are going in. You do not have to use conversational hypnosis techniques however to elicit an open I state of hypnosis.

Much of the work I do with my hypnosis clients is actually with them in hypnosis and eyes open however there is an expectation within them that they will close their eyes and so we do it this way just for that reason. Hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor and the establishment of selective agreeable thinking. This means that we are circumventing the conscious mind and speaking directly to the subconscious mind in a way that it is in agreement with what we are suggesting. As you get better at hypnotising people you will begin to see the signs of hypnosis, you will begin to notice when they are in and that you are speaking directly to the subconscious mind. All it takes is practice and through practice you have experience.
